The Ghana Police Service is deepening investigations into the tragic death of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, with new evidence suggesting that a fufu pestle might have been the weapon used in the suspected murder.

According to COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), police recovered a bloodied pestle wrapped in polythene near the home of the primary suspect, Bright Aweh. In addition, law enforcement officials discovered traces of blood in Aweh’s vehicle, which has since been seized for further forensic analysis.

As part of the ongoing investigation, samples from Amoah’s mother and son have been taken to assist in DNA profiling. A search of Aweh’s residence revealed blood stains in the living area, with evidence suggesting a hurried attempt to clean up. Walls were reportedly freshly painted, and a used spray paint can was found at the scene.

Authorities suspect Aweh may not have acted alone. COP Donkor confirmed that a special operation is currently underway to identify and apprehend possible accomplices. She emphasized that the investigation is active and that every effort is being made to bring all those involved to justice.

Details Surrounding Bright Aweh’s Arrest

On July 10, the Ghana Police confirmed the arrest of Bright Aweh, who allegedly lured Amoah to a meeting under the pretext of repaying a significant debt. Aweh is said to have sent WhatsApp photos of large sums of cash to Amoah and arranged a meeting at Ashongman Estates on July 3.

That night, Amoah informed his wife about the meeting and left home around 8 PM. It was the last time his family saw or heard from him in person. Later that evening, his wife—who was away—received a strange text message from Amoah’s phone claiming he had returned safely with the money. However, the tone of the message raised suspicions as it was uncharacteristic of him.

Alarmed, Amoah’s brother was asked to check the house, but there was no sign of him. Then, on July 9, police discovered a charred body at the location where Aweh and Amoah had arranged to meet. The remains were taken to the Police Hospital morgue for further examination.

During police questioning, Aweh gave conflicting statements. He admitted to meeting Amoah and claimed not only to have repaid the GH¢200,000 debt but also to have handed him an additional GH¢300,000 for safekeeping—a claim investigators are treating with skepticism.

Family’s Version Aligns with Police Findings

Amoah’s family confirmed that he left home after receiving a call from someone believed to be Aweh, who allegedly owed him money. The circumstances leading up to his disappearance, as narrated by the family, have so far been consistent with police findings.

This developing case continues to raise national attention, especially as law enforcement digs deeper to uncover the full truth behind the shocking demise of Officer Stephen King Amoah.
