In the early hours of Sunday, August 3, 2025, a fierce fire broke out at Madina Ritz Junction in Accra, destroying several wooden kiosks and temporary structures. The sudden blaze sent shockwaves through the area, forcing residents to evacuate in a frantic attempt to escape the flames.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 4:30 a.m. and quickly spread due to the closely packed wooden buildings. Many residents woke up to the smell of smoke and the sound of crackling flames. As the fire intensified, panic set in, with people rushing to salvage what they could.

The situation grew even more dangerous when high-tension electricity cables reportedly collapsed under the heat, sparking fear of electrocution. Bystanders could be seen shouting for help while some used buckets and makeshift containers to try to douse the flames.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly, deploying teams from Madina, Legon, and Abelemkpe, alongside a water tanker from the national headquarters. Their quick intervention helped to contain the fire before it could spread to nearby residential areas.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, who was on-site with her team, confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. She praised the coordinated efforts of the GNFS and emphasized the need for improved safety measures in slum communities where such fires are common.

This marks the second fire outbreak in the area in less than a month, raising serious concerns about the vulnerability of structures at Madina Ritz Junction. Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the cause of the fire and to find long-term solutions to prevent future incidents.

Residents are calling on city officials to provide safer housing alternatives and better fire safety infrastructure, including functional hydrants and regulated electricity connections.
