Ghanaian socialite and musician Mona Faiz Montrage, widely known as Hajia 4Reall, is returning to Ghana after serving a 12-month prison sentence in the United States. Her legal troubles began when she was arrested in the UK on November 10, 2022, after attending the Ghana Music Awards UK. She was later extradited to the U.S. in May 2023 to face charges stemming from a romance scam that defrauded victims between 2013 and 2019. In February 2024, Hajia 4Reall pleaded guilty to conspiracy to receive stolen money. She admitted to receiving money from over 40 victims as part of a network involved in romance fraud. On June 28, 2024, a U.S. court sentenced her to one year and one day in prison, ordered her to forfeit $216,475, and pay restitution of $1,387,458. She was also given three years of supervised release, which will be enforced when she returns to Ghana. As her sentence approached its end, her lawyers filed a request for her passport to be released so she could self-deport. The U.S. District Court approved the motion, allowing her to be transferred directly from the detention facility in Philadelphia to the airport by U.S. Marshals. She is expected to fly straight to Ghana without any domestic layovers. Her return has generated a lot of public interest, considering her status in Ghana’s entertainment scene and the international attention her legal case attracted.
