R&B superstar Chris Brown is once again making headlines—this time for legal trouble in the United Kingdom. The singer was arrested on May 15, 2025, while staying at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester. His arrest stems from an alleged assault that took place in 2023 at Tape nightclub in London’s upscale Mayfair district.
According to prosecutors, Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abraham Diaw in an unprovoked incident. Reports claim the singer struck Diaw multiple times on the head with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 Tequila before continuing to punch and kick him after he collapsed. The assault was allegedly captured on CCTV footage, which is now a key piece of evidence in the case.
Chris Brown was formally charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and appeared before the Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16. The severity of the charges meant the case was immediately transferred to Southwark Crown Court in London. The judge also denied Brown’s bail request, ordering that he remain in custody until his next hearing, scheduled for June 13, 2025.

This arrest has cast a shadow over Brown’s highly anticipated “Breezy Bowl XX” world tour, which was set to kick off in Amsterdam on June 8 and included several UK dates. It remains unclear how his legal situation will affect the tour schedule.
In addition to the criminal case, Abraham Diaw has filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, seeking £12 million (about $16 million USD) in damages related to the incident.
Chris Brown has faced numerous legal issues over the years, including his well-known 2009 felony assault conviction involving singer Rihanna. This latest case only adds to a long history of controversies that continue to follow the award-winning artist.
